Meet the Regional Campus Candidates - 2019 Elections

Read about the 2019 USUSA elections Regional Campus candidates. They have each provided brief descriptions of themselves and their campaigns, which are presented below. Reach out to individual candidates for more information and prepare for Elections Week 2019, which runs from February 24 – March 1.

Doug Hintze

Doug Hintze

Hometown: Centerville, Utah

Major(s): Outdoor Product Design & Development

Minor(s): Marketing

Platform: Every Aggie has a voice, no matter the location! My goal is to tell your stories and help elevate your voices, with the hope of increasing Aggie Pride and improving the overall university experience.

Qualifications:

  • I love Utah State, I have dreamed of being an Aggie my whole life
  • I communicate well with all people and love to make new friends
  • I am a team player and love to work to what is best for all
  • I am energized and passionate about student government and our USU experience
  • I attend the Regional Campuses of Kaysville and Brigham City, as well as the main Logan campus

Goals/Plans:

  • Give the Regional Campuses an even greater voice in the USU Community.
  • Help increase the growing list of classes and majors available to Regional Campuses. 
  • Meet students of each regional campus and share their stories.
  • Improve state-wide pride of being an Aggie!
  • Help make the college experience as fun and painless as possible.

Platform: I will be the strongest and loudest voice that empowers our student body. I will create movements, motivate administration, and improve the student governments' effectivness throughout our regional campuses.

  • Been Director of Admissions to a boarding school

  • Driven go-getter, I will get results for our Student Body

Goals/Plans:

  • Create open bulletin board for Student Body Voice to be seen and recognized regionally.

  • Work with administration to better student life.

  • Create fun and exciting activities, regional events
  • Strive to seek out student government initiatives, during the whole term of my Presidency.

  • Generate student involvement into USUSA events and movements.


Daysha Talbert

Major(s): Nursing and Sociology

Platform:I will advocate for the regional campus students by being available for student concerns and I hope to increase services, information, activities, and opportunities to the students.

Qualifications:

  • I am currently serving as the Moab Vice President and I understand regional campus student government

  • I have 10 years of leadership experience including student government, management, motherhood, and event planning. Aggie Blue Leadership Conference Facilitator 2017 & 2018

  • Advocating for students has been a priority of mine since I started schooling Utah State

  • I enjoy problem-solving and listening to ideas and concerns

  • I have had a successful year in student government and have learned a lot. I am excited to continue serving the student body

Goals/Plans:

  • I want to keep the student fees affordable while ensuring that a range of services are available.

  • Work with administration to see that a great range of classes are available to our regional campuses.

  • Advocate that more student services become available to the regional campuses.

  • Assess the unique needs of regional campuses and addressing them.

  • Continue the campaign of the use of MyVoice to be an outlet for students.

Platform:As Executive Vice President, I will work to create an environment modeled after main campus with a wide range of opportunities for every type of student to ensure their highest chance of success at USU-Blanding.

    while maintaining place on Dean’s list

  • Raise campus-wide GPA by implementing tools and resources to help students.
  • Increase student awareness and involvement with university resources.
  • Promote and foster campus/community relationship to create mutual benefits.
  • Assist in seamless transition into USU proper division.
  • Create broader opportunity on campus for students.

Major(s): MEd School Counseling

Platform: As an advocate for students, I will seek to increase awareness of services and opportunities already available, be a voice for improved access to services, and responsibly utilize resources for the betterment of the overall student experience.

  • Good listener - it is important to gather information from all sides to make effective decisions for the whole group

Goals/Plans:

  • Be a strong voice for students in making decisions/policies affecting them.
  • Help utilize student fees wisely and in ways which benefit the student body by improving access to services, building community, expressing appreciation, promoting the regional campus experience, etc.
  • Continue with previous efforts to promote the wellbeing and mental health of our students.
  • Work cooperatively with other USU branches and departments to promote positive relationships and campus improvements.
  • Utilize student feedback to improve use of student fees and overall student experience where possible.

Platform: Bring clarity and transparency to campus policies, in turn increase the students feelings of involvement in their student government.

  • Provide a voice for the students questions and concerns.

Platform: I am running for student body vice president because I am the average non-traditional student like majority of the students on the Moab campus. I will ensure each voice is heard and accommodate each concern to the best of my abilities.

  • I want to put together more social events.
  • I want to make campus a safer place by putting better lighting in the parking lot.

Platform: I want for the USU Moab Campus to become more enthusiastic when it comes to school events, and having a stronger sense of community, especially when the new school is built!

  • I’d like to get the students at the Moab campus more involved as a community.

  • More school pride especially when the new school is built!

Platform: As VP I wish to encourage Concurrent enrollment students to continue their education and help them know in which ways this can be accomplished.

Qualifications:

  • I am good at organizing activities and different functions
  • I enjoy leading
  • I like to listen to others concerns, I will represent well
  • I have an understanding of how USU Uintah basin works so I can direct students accordingly

Goals/Plans:

  • Represent students wants in the Uintah Basin.
  • Encourage concurrent enrollment students to continue education by getting them involved.
  • Continue improving the venue options for our vending machine.
  • Make student activities fees well worth the price.

Candidates for Southwest Campus VP

Platform: I will continue my efforts to advocate for Southwest Students and will fight for your rights as students. You are entitled to have a voice in your academic experience. Vote Hannah Tervort for Southwest VP and help the Southwest continue to improve.

Qualifications:

  • I have 2 years of experience working in USUSA student government

  • I have advocated for student voice in student fee spending and unfair class requirements

  • I have leadership experience within my community - Miss Santaquin Director, Utah Girls State Counselor, Community Fundraising

  • I have worked on various USUSA Regional Council Committees working on legislation bringing positive change to USU

  • I love USU!!! Go AGGIES!!

Goals/Plans:

  • Continue my efforts to ensure that Student Government fees are kept in the hands of the students.

  • Bring USU Resources to all Southwest Students.

  • Ensure that each Southwest student receives direct benefits from their student activity fees.

  • Travel more and have a physical presence throughout the Southwest.

  • Create a more efficient purchasing protocol so that students receive their student activity fee benefits quickly and efficiently.

Major(s): Special Education with Severe Emphasis

Platform: During my year as the Vice President of the Southwest region, my main focus is to increase the Aggie spirit throughout the regional campuses. 

Qualifications:

  • I am organized

  • I am very careful with money under my stewardship

  • I enjoy collaborating and creating with others

  • I am outgoing

  • I am dependable, I always follow through

Goals/Plans:

  • Increase USU pride at each learning center.

  • Host an annual family night to celebrate the students and their hard work.

  • Designate funds for each learning center to stock their fridges with the items that they each enjoy.

  • Create a charging center for each learning center, to support their technological needs.

Minor(s): Biology and Spanish

Platform: Most of our student work and have limited time. The purpose of being a VP is to make everyone have a good experience of learning. I want all students to feel like me, like it is a second home, regardless of their limited time to participate. 

Qualifications:

  • Ambitious and desire to learn and to know

  • I am very honest in my dealings with others

  • I have good persuasion abilities with others incite them to learn and get involved

  • Responsible, determined and willing

  • I am outgoing and caring

Goals/Plans:

  • I hope to keep making Tooele campus a good, safe and homey place.

  • Listening to the needs of all the students, especially with so many unconventional students.

  • I want to be able to have more people participate and be involved in activities.

  • More connection between the community, alumni living in the area, and students.

  • Make sure that the day-to-day added comforts like coffee, popcorn and food are available.

Major(s): Management Information Systems

Platform: As your Region VP, I will represent you and your needs. Let's make your best ideas a reality and add events to campus to give us that authentic Aggie Experience!

Qualifications:

  • WSU Best Buddies Chapter Secretary for 2 years

  • Advisor and coordinator of 30 school-based chapters as Best Buddies Program Manager for 3 years

  • Various leadership positions for 10+ years

Goals/Plans:

  • Host more events on campus to encourage connection and networking among students.

  • Hold monthly office hours on both the Salt Lake and Orem campuses.

  • Work closely with the student representatives to implement student feedback.

  • Make our unique needs known and heard by USU staff locally and across the state.
